Continue reading below to learn how the various Warrior names are put together to learn how to make your own names.

Starting Your Warrior Cat Name

Warrior cat names have two parts to a name that are joined together. First, you’ll need a prefix to use for your cat. Prefixes are often:

  • Something about their appearance: White, Tiny, Tiger, Spotted, Dark, Raven, Yellow
  • Something related to nature: Willow, Rose, Flame, Storm, Lightning, Ivy, Lion

Completing Warrior Cat Names

Next, you’ll need to pick a suffix to complete your Warrior Cat name. These usually match what you chose for the first part of your name. For example, if you chose ‘Tiger,’ the last part might be ‘claw’ or ‘tail.’ There are also a few suffixes that have meanings you can use: ‘star’ is for a leader, ‘kit’ is for a young cat, and ‘paw’ is an apprentice.

Alternatively, cats without a Clan stick to the first part of their name, which is also a great way to name your cat. For example:

  • Bella
  • Birdy
  • Cody
  • Cora
  • Flora
  • Flower
  • Nutmeg
  • Pixie
  • Ruby
  • Socks
  • Violet

Note: Warrior Cat names should never include the following: spirit, shadow, thunder, river, wind, and moon, as they are reserved as sacred.

Clan Names

The warriors series covers the adventures of five clans of cats, all with a nature prefix and the word ‘clan’ as a suffix. Each of these cat clans has its unique special skills. The clans include:

  • ThunderClan
  • ShadowClan
  • WindClan
  • RiverClan
  • SkyClan

Other Names from the Series

The Ancients

Before the clans moved to the lake territories, The Ancients lived there. The Ancients’ names are all two words, but they aren’t combined into a single name like the Warriors. Some examples include Dove’s Wing, Stone Song, and Fallen Leaves.

Loner Cats

Loners live on their own and don’t belong to any clans. Their names are single words and typically normal names or inspired by nature. Some names include Storm, Bumble, Night, and Lichen.

Tribe Cats

The tribe has different terminology and positions than a clan but is otherwise similar. Their names are similar to Native American names. Some tribe cat names include Rock Beneath Still Water, Talon of Swooping Eagle, and Lark That Sings at Dawn.

Kittypet Names

Kittypets are typical housecats within the Warriors universe. They have normal cat names, which our cat names generator are perfect for!

    What about Magpie?

  3. Musical Trash

Amazing I came up with WillowWing, BrightDawn, CinderDusk, BreezeBranch, FeatherFern, EchoJay, BlossomBlaze, and CloudEar

  4. Spottedmask

Actually, “moon” can be both a prefix and a suffix. In the books, there is a cat called “Moonflower”, and also one called “Ambermoon.”

  5. Larkspurblaze

This is a great list of names! (Just one suggestion: I know this isn’t very common in the books bit maybe more unheard-of suffixes, like astilbe, or maybe anemone.)

  6. Willowheart

Also feather can be a prefix and suffix. In the books, there is a cat called “Crowfeather”, and also there is “Feathertail”.

  7. Leopardfur

I love this so much! I was going to write my own series for warriors but had to make up a ton of cats names, it was really hard until I found this. Now I just look at prefixes and suffixes and match them up and make names. Now I have done all four clans, Starclan, the dark forest, and place of no stars! Thanks for making this so much easier, I appreciate it

  8. Paledust

    Redraven or Flamefern?

  14. Warriorcatfan

I’m writing my own series, though i feel mean bc it feels like I’m copying so many things even though I’m not, and I love the names I came up with Branchpelt, Honeywish, lionsun, silverwish, and a lot more, thank you sooo much

  15. Moonstar

I love this!! I’m writing my own Warriors series (Next Gen) and it helps come up with names. the only thing, is I have Shadowfall, Thunderheart, Windfire, and Rivertail, in respect for the original leaders!! I get the sacred thing, but it makes it really hard to come up with names without using those four Prefixes/suffixes. I ended up having a Lionheart, and Sandstorm in respect for the OG’s.

  16. Moonstar

WarrIorcatfan, I get you, I’m writing my own series and I feel like i’m copying sooooo much!! It’s turned out really well though!!

  25. Yellowthorn

Kyle, please add Eel to the prefixes as it is a prefix because in Mapleshade’s Fury there’s a cat in RiverClan called Eeltail. Thanks!

  26. Spottedmask

So, I see that “Bella” is on the list of prefixes. “Bella” is a human name, and not a name of nature that the Clan cats would have known. The only reason why the SkyClan cat “Bellaleaf” had that name was because she had been a kittypet named “Bella”, and SkyClan cats are known for having Daytime Warriors who had both their Twoleg given name and a warrior suffex attached to it, like “Billystorm”, “Rileypool”, and “Harveymoon”. I don’t think that “Bella” belongs on the list of prefixes or in the name generator. Really, anyone could take any name and put it there, it just happened to be “Bella”. Having “Bella” there doesn’t make any more sense then having “Sarah” or “Emily” there, as an example.

  27. Spottedmask

I would like to add that “Pear” is a prefix. There was a ThunderClan cat name “Pearnose” who had approached “Goosefeather” as a ghost when he was training to be a medicine cat.

  28. Spottedmask

I also wanted to add that “Yarrow” is a prefix, (ex: the ShadowClan Yarrowleaf), “Cone” is a prefix (can’t remember the cat’s full name of which Clan they can from, but “cone” came from “pinecone”), “Curl” is a prefix (ex: the RiverClan/WindClan cat named Curlfeather), “Sneeze” is a prefix (ex: the RiverClan cat named “Sneezecloud), “Sedge” is a prefix (ex: the WindClan cat name “Sedgewhisker), “Wooly” is a prefix (ex: the WindClan cat named “Woolytail), “Plum” is a prefix (ex: the SkyClan cat named Plumwillow, and there was a WindClan cat but I can’t remember her full name), “Strike” is a prefix (ex: the ShadowClan cat named Strikestone), “Oat” is a prefix (ex: the WindClan cat named Oatwhisker), and “Seed” is a prefix (ex: the ThunderClan cat named Seedpaw).

  29. Spottedmask

One more, “Rye” is a prefix (ex: the WindClan warrior named “Ryestalk”)

  30. Spottedmask

Nope, here’s another one, “nettle” is a prefix (ex: the SkyClan cat named “Nettlesplash).

  31. Spottedmask

And another one, “rabbit” is a prefix (ex: the SkyClan warrior named “Rabbitleap”).
Also want to mention that “Fallow” I a prefix (ex: the SkyClan cat named “Fallowfern”).

  32. Spottedmask

I didn’t think that I would have to mention this, but “gray” is a prefix (ex: Graystripe of ThunderClan), and while I’m at it, “Dust” is a prefix (ex: Dustpelt of ThunderClan), “Dusk” is a prefix (ex: there was a RiverClan cat, I think her name was Duskwater?), and “bracken” is a prefix (ex: “Brackenfur” of ThunderClan).
All that said though, this article is great.

  33. Spottedmask

While I’m at it, “Russet” is a prefix (ex: the ShadowClan deputy “Russetfur”), “Rowan” is a prefix (ex: the ShadowClan deputy “Rowanclaw”), and “Red” is a prefix (ex: I can’t remember which Clan the warrior came from, but his name was “Redwillow”).

  34. Meadowfire

You’re missing sharp for the prefixes(ex:the sky clan deputy Sharpclaw

  35. Spottedmask

Hey, just wanted to add that “Morning” is a prefix (ex: the WindClan Queen/Elder “Morningflower), “One” is a prefix (ex: the WindClan cat “Onewhisker”), “Toad” is a prefix (ex: the ShafowClan cat “Toadfoot” and the ThunderClan cat “Toadstep”), “Hop” is a prefix (ex: the WindClan cat “Hopkit”), and “Marigold” is a prefix (ex: Marigoldkit, I think the cat was from ThunderClan maybe? but passed shortly after birth).

  36. Nightfall

I feel like I’m taking so much from the books when I write a spin-off, it’s terrifying to think that you’re taking too much from the books.

  37. Moonflower

Ooh! Jay is a prefix (the thunderclan med cat Jayfeather)

  38. Frost That Freezes Hearts (Frost)

    Bella isn’t a prefix.

  39. Silver Star glinting in the sky (Silver)
